Review: Lost Girls
Lost Girls by Ann Kelley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Set in Thailand towards the end of the Vietnam War, this centers on a small group of young girls stranded on an island after a freak storm blows them off course onto an island other than the one they were meant to camp on. The only person who knows precisely where they are dies when his boat is sunk. The author clearly means this to be a lower-impact version of The Girls' Lord of the Flies, and by and large it works. The main character/narrator is a little too good to be believed, and the Lessons to Be Learned are a little too pat, but for kids it would be an excellent introduction to the fallibility of adults and planning, and how a little knowledge can safe your life.
