Review: Cry, the Beloved Country
Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I finished it!! And it turned out to be quite good, but for that I give credit to Michael York's reading, and the fact that I didn't have to wade through the lengthy paragraphs of repetition. Which was there for a literary reason, but rather tedious even to listen to. Also, I think the African names need to be heard rather than read.
Great, very sad, very hopeful story. If you've gotten stuck like I had (for 30 years!), I really can't recommend listening to this one highly enough.
