Here's the rest of the review: Oh. My. God.
WOW.
There's a lot going on in this book, even more than in the previous books in the trilogy. I'm pretty sure the average teenager is NOT going to get a third of what happens, not the first time through it. I'm certain I haven't got it all figured out.
I can't summarize this book beyond saying the Lyra fulfills the witches' prophecy, and she and Will make difficult, impossibly painful decisions. It's a hard book. Difficult and hard in the sense of unforgiving. It does NOT talk down or preach. The universe that Pullman has created holds firm in every way to the story.
Wow. Anyone interested in physics, metaphysics, fable, life, death, God, politics, good vs. evil, love...should read this trilogy. Only, I'm not sure most people will enjoy the trip.
