The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Fascinating. I learned a lot about the history of Chicago in this, and finally got the low-down on H.H. Holmes. I had started a book (a novel) about him several years ago that was too hideous to finish, but this was much more sensible. Still awful, of course.
Again, though, I have to complain about the narrator. "Wilmette" is not pronounced "Will Meet"--I mean really. Do some freakin' research!
