Review: Spider Woman's Daughter

Spider Woman's Daughter
Spider Woman's Daughter by Anne Hillerman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'm always a little leery of series that are carried on after the original author's death, but in this case I needn't have worried: Tony Hillerman's daughter has done a splendid job picking up where her dad left off, switching the focus to Bernie Manuelito and moving the lives of the characters forward.

The story starts with Joe Leaphorn being shot as he leaves from breakfast with several cop friends. While trying to figure out why he was shot, Chee and Manuelito run into a bunch of "ghosts" from the past. It's a really lovely story about friendship, love--both romantic and familial--and the things we do for each other when the chips are down.

Please write more, Anne.
