Paul Among the People, by Sarah Ruden

A reclamation project for sure. Ruden goes back and places some of Paul's more incendiary (to modern eyes) writings back into the society in which they were written and uses contemporary sources to show what people were writing and talking about outside of Christian society. She doesn't always come down on the side I would prefer, but it is enlightening to see more realistic translations of Paul's epistles.

However, towards they end, she seemed to go off on VERY random tangents which were distracting, something about writing a letter or meeting Nelson Mandela...? I reread those sections and never did figure out what she was talking about.

So, the Greek was good, but the English needs work.
