The Man Who Wrote the Book, by Erik Tarloff

So...dude is an English professor at a small, Baptist college. Dude is having an existential, pre-midlife crisis. Dude spends his spring break visiting his best friend from college after an extended lack of contact with best friend. Best friend turns out to be a publisher...of p.0.rn, what best friend calls "d.b." or dirty b00ks. Best friend offers dude a contract. Dude sleeps with gorgeous model-type neighbor of best friend. A lot. And some more. Dude goes back to his messed-up life and is suddenly inspired to write the d.b. for which he is contracted. The book is published....and sells out multiple printings.

And so it goes.

Kind of chick lit for boys: not all that believable, but fun. The characterization of women is particularly obtuse and facile, but everyone is quirky and not so plasticized as to be unrecognizable.
