What do you get when you mix New Orleans-slash-Lousisiana culture with a regular mystery plot and throw in vampires and were-animals, psychics, and arranged marriages? Well, one thing would be this series about Sookie Stackhouse. I came across it while cataloging this book and couldn't resist; now I have to go back and read the previous novels, and add Harris to my "Must Read" list. Rats. ;-)
In this book, Sookie faces the music and heads down to New Orleans from Shreveport to clean out her cousin's apartment after said cousin's death several months ago. She is also trying to figure out where she stands with several of the 'men' in her life (one is a were-leopard and two others are vampires), all of whom seem overly possessive in weird and scary ways. And then there is the half-demon whose body is found dead outside her house... And the witch who is the landlord for her cousin's apartment...
Yes, this is a weird world Sookie is living in, but it bears a fair likeness to the world the rest of us deal with. She's just got more issues. And just who is trying to kill the Vampire Queen? And why?
A fun book about a fun heroine with some very ...interesting... problems.
