S is for Silence, by Sue Grafton

I realized part-way through this book that Kinsey wasn't really doing a lot of detecting. The format is about half flashback, and Kinsey makes a couple of good deductions, including the discovery of just what did happen to Violet Sullivan's car in 1953 when she (and it) disappeared. Kinsey is firmly ensconced in 1987, however, and it's a bit disconcerting to remember that she used to be several years older than me--when I started reading her books--and now she is several years younger than me. There appear to be seven more books in the series. That should bring the end of the series up to about 1990 or so.

How depressing.
