Wow. In spite of the title--which you've got to admit sounds kind of dull--this book is absolutely fascinating. It moves along at a good pace, never bogging down in minutiae but including lots of really in-depth details. I'd reread this in a heartbeat, and it would be a good book for research purposes. It really does cover America from colonial times all the way up to the turn of the millennia. It also has a great bibliography and good index.
