Yeah, so this book was published the year I graduated from high school, which seems fairly recent to me in a lot of ways. Except when I read stuff published that year and realize that ... it's 23 years ago.

This is the first book in the Skeleton Doctor series, in which we are introduced to Gideon Oliver, anthropology professor. He is in Europe, traveling from American military base to base teaching courses for the staff when he suddenly finds himself being repeatedly attacked. This, not surprisingly, gets his dander up and he is unwilling to just let it go. Instead, he bullheadedly forces his way deeper into the morass of espionage and police work, and eventually -- with the help of John Lau, a base police officer, solves the whole thing. Of course.

Obviously, I'm not impressed, but then again this is Elkins first book of the series, and I like the characters. I'll read a few more and if they don't improve as they get less old, I may quit.
