I read this in about 4 hours. Not exactly a brain drain....

The cover has a kicker line that's worth quoting: "Now serving Armageddon with a side of fries..."

The heroes here are Duke (a very noncommunicative, macho, he-man type who happens to be a werewolf) and Earl (a slightly, more neurotic type who is actually a 97-year-old vampire). They are traveling through Texas and stop at Gil's for dinner. Unfortunately, they picked a restaurant that is under attack by zombies. Feeling sorry for Loretta, who manages the place, they decide to stay and help her clear the place out. The problem is that zombies are the least of their worries: Gil's was built over a portal that channels evil into our world when certain spells are cast.

Plus Earl falls in love ... with a ghost.

It sounds bizarre (it is) and lame (a bit), but it's also funny in a very Molly Ivins way. I can believe that some of the weird stuff in this book wouldn't be remarked upon in parts of Texas.

A great B- (or C- ) movie here if anyone is interested....
