Blood Salt Water: An Alex Morrow Novel by Denise Mina
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
It isn't very often one reads a book where the murderer is one of the characters for whom I feel some empathy and even understanding. Not precisely because he's a bad 'un, to be sure.
This is a very Scottish novel. I will have to find more by Mina. The writing is stellar, the descriptions of the Glasgow area are great, and the people that fill the pages are all too real. There are two dead women, one really awful woman who is not as she seems, a large number of Men-Being-Idiots, and family woes. Really a sad book, ultimately, although not for the reasons you'd expect from a mystery.
