X by Sue Grafton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book was excellent. It tied directly to the previous book and set up the last two in the series without being "just filler." The general plot revolves around an art theft, a series of missing girls and women, and shady neighbors. Also, California in a drought (so, hello, 2015, er 1989). The last few pages nearly did me in. No spoilers here, but it's rather unexpected in EVERY way.
