Review: The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a fun little book! I love Flavia, and her sisters, and even her dad a little. The setting--just after WWII--in a wealthy home in the English countryside is unusual, and this girl is absolutely wonderful. She and Mary Russell share a certain kinship. It's so nice to see smart girls who aren't portrayed as "weird" getting some due in literature. OK, she's weird, but in an attractive way. I wouldn't mind being Flavia. The mystery was fun, not too deep, but it's the characterizations that made the book for me. Another author to keep track of.
